Pond Day at Gorham Middle School

7th graders in Mrs. Gospodarek’s class at Gorham Middle School ventured into the woods to explore Ram Pond and collect macroinvertebrate samples!

The Biology - Conservation Link

Macroinvertebrates—small, spineless aquatic organisms like dragonfly larvae, snails, and aquatic worms—serve as key indicators of water quality. By collecting and classifying these pond samples back in the classroom, the students identified over 20 different species, gaining hands-on insight into local watershed health.

District Staff Joined the Fun

Cumberland County Soil & Water Conservation District team members Abby Olszewski (Project Administrator) and Kristie Munson (District Educator) were on hand to assist with the field research and help students connect with nature.
