Pollinator Garden Filters Stormwater at Sebago Lake
We stopped by the Standish Landing boat launch to check out the progress of the Pollinator Garden installed two years ago in collaboration with the Portland Water District, Maine DEP, EPA, and the CCSWCD.
The team chose native species like Butterfly Weed, Blackeyed Susan, Gayfeather, Sweet Fern, Blueberry, Cinquefoil, Cornflower, and Honeysuckle to populate the garden. The native plants are thriving and establishing roots, providing pollinating opportunities for bees, butterflies, and birds. But the important work doesn’t stop there— this garden also helps filter stormwater runoff flowing from the parking lot and road before it reaches Sebago Lake!
Like we always say… Flowers- is there anything they can’t do?
